Double Layer Closure of Duodenal Ulcer Perforation - An Observational Study

There are various techniques of closure of duodenal ulcer perforation and there is no consensus among the surgeons on any particular surgical procedure of dealing with duodenal ulcer perforation. The double layer closure of duodenal ulcer perforation has not been tried so far for fear of causing gastric outlet obstruction. We conducted the study on 46 patients, who underwent closure of duodenal perforation in two layers reinforced with a pedicled omental patch. We had only one mortality within one month of the surgery and no evidence of duodenal stenosis in any of our case at the end of six months of follow-up.
