To Study the Effects of Oral Nutritional Supplements in CKD Patients on Maintenance Hemodialysis

Abstract

To study the effects of oral nutritional supplements in chronic kidney disease patients (CKD) on maintenance hemodialysis(MHD).

Oral nutritional supplement was given to 100 CKD patients on MHD over 6 months period and efficacy parameters such as serum albumin and haemoglobin levels, weight, SGA and MIS scores and safety parameters such as serum K+ and PO4-- were studied.

There was a statistically significant improvement in the mean serum albumin, haemoglobin level, mean body weight, MIS and SGA scores,whereas serum phosphorus and potassium level did not changed significantly.

Oral nutritional supplements given to CKD patients on MHD improves nutritional status.
