To observe the continuation rate, expulsion rate and complication of Multiload 375 insertion in post placental, immediate post partum, post MTP and interval period.
A Prospective study done after getting approval from the ethical committee of the institution.
Continuation rate at the end of six months were 96%, 90%, 82% &78% in interval, post MTP, post placental and immediate post partum groups respectively.from 1 to 6 months, maximum(4.76%)patients expelled in immediate postpartum group, 2.32% in post placental group. No expulsion was observed in interval group. Excessive bleeding was recorded in 8% of interval group, 6% in post MTP, 4% in immediate postpartum.post placental group had minimum incidence 2%, at 1 month.
Post partum IUCD insertion is a safe and effective method. PPIUCD donot increase the risk of complication when compared to post MTP and interval insertion, though expulsion rates are relatively high.
