To pinpoint the challenges and problems faced by CKD patients for MHD in rural areas of Wardha district, central India, and to address necessary steps to reduce the same.
This cross sectional study was done in Acharya Vinoba Bhave Rural Hospital which is a 1280 bedded, fully equipped teaching hospital attached to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Wardha. Over 70 CKD patients were interviewed based on a questionnaire regarding their challenges and problems faced during maintenance hemodialysis.
Out of 70 cases interviewed twenty nine percent of patients were not aware about the adequacy of dialysis prescription (2 to 3 times/week). Thirty six percent of the cases even though were aware couldn't afford the treatment. Forty three percent of cases had inaccessibility to dialysis centers.
India still struggles to make MHD accessible, affordable and formidable to the CKD patients residing in rural areas.
