Microbiology of Dental Implants: a Review of Literature

Abstract

Root form dental implants have a high success rate and are commonly used for replacement of missing teeth, however failures occasionally occurs, such implants must be removed. Like teeth dental implants also establish micro flora soon after placement and stable implants showed no significant shifts in the composition, whereas failing implants showed presence of gram negative anaerobic bacteria. This article reviews the micro flora associated with dental implants.
