Abstract

Catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) are quite frequently occurred in hospitalized patients. Catheter inserted hospitalized male patients were enrolled for the study. Routine microscopy and culture for bacterial investigation were performed. They were further analysed by enzymatic or biochemical tests. Escherichia coli were highly prominent (37.7%) in the patients followed by Klebsiella (27.8), pseudomonas (21.3%), staphylococcus (11.4%) and proteus and candida (3.27%). Catheter device should be routinely checked or intermittently changed for reducing the risk of developing these bacteria.
