The purpose of the Knowledge Attitude Practice (KAP) based Study was to determine the community perceptions in terms of mosquito born diseases, also to find out the extent of bed net use including Insecticide Treated Bednets, the factors associated with the net use.
A community based cross sectional KAP study was carried out in malaria endemic K.S Hegde Medical Academy rural field practice areas of Mangaluru covering 200 households.
Diseases transmitted through mosquito are known by around 90% of the people. Some of them know about insecticide treated bed net, but proper usage is not known. Use of bed net for guests and children is recommended.
The study found that knowledge about causes of malaria and other mosquito bite diseases was satisfactory, most of them use mosquito coils as a mode of prevention, people find it cumbersome to tie bed net every day and also some of them believe to be hot in area like Mangaluru
