Dengue fever is a globally important arboviral infection transmitted by mosquitoes of the Aedes genus (primarily Aedes aegypti, but also Aedes albopictus), an insect found in tropical and subtropical regions.
1. To study the demographic profile of Dengue fever cases. 2. To find the clinical features of Dengue fever cases. 3. To determine the outcome of Dengue fever cases
The present Hospital based descriptive study was conducted at Alluri Sita Ramaraju Academy of Medical Sciences, Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, during the period from January 2014 to December 2014 by retrospectively. A total of 58 individuals were selected from the hospital records based on the full details available in the case sheet. Results were analysed and necessary statistical tests were applied.
Out of 58 individuals, 30 were males and 28 were females. Almost all the people presented with the fever. Among Dengue cases, 56.8% patients were presented with chills and rigors and same percentage with vomitings. Only 10.3% were presented with rash (P>0.05). In the study population, 87.9% were recovered within 1 week of treatment and only 12.3% were discharged on request. There was no mortality was observed in all the Dengue cases.
Based on the above study results, 77.5% were exclusively positive for NS1 Ag, Ig m and Ig G. 13.8% (8/58) were positive for Dengue and Malaria and remaining 8.6% (5/58) were dengue test negative and clinically responded with treatment. Mixed infection of dengue fever associated with different malaria species is also increasing. Early identification and appropriate supportive treatment is essential. Our sample is less and there are many studies required for the support of our study findings.
