Abstract

Multiple studies have noted the positive effects of fasting on mental health. The present study was conducted to determine stress level of feelings and thoughts among healthy adult Muslims during the month of Ramadan in Meerut Uttar Pradesh, India.

The objective of this study was to determine stress level of feelings and thoughts among healthy adult Muslims during the month of Ramadan.

In this study, pre test and post test was used for the evaluation of 200 respondents. The subjects were evaluated using a Perceived Stress Scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 21 and Chi square.

The findings showed that stress levels were significantly reduced after in comparison with before < 0.05). After Ramadan fasting, the study showed significant differences between pre’ and post test results in terms of stress level of feelings and thoughts among healthy adult Muslims. There was a significant positive relationship between fasting and ten subscales of PSS.

The study results demonstrated that religious practices such as fasting in the holy month of Ramadan have been effective in diminishing stress, anxiety, and depression levels, as the decrement has been statistically significant for the stress and depression rates.
