Black quarter, caused by Clostridium chauvoei, is one of the economically important diseases causing huge economic losses to beefand dairy farmers. Information regarding the virulence factors of Clostridium chauvoei is very scanty. Thepresent study aimed at PCR amplification and cloning of immunogenic portion of cctA gene, which encodes one of the important virulence factors. PCR amplification of the immunogenic portion of cctA gene yielded a product length of 861 basepairs which was cloned into pQE30-Xa vector followed by transformation into E.coli MIS cells. The recombinant clones were characterized by colony PCR, sequencing, followed by BLAST analysis to confirm the insert.
