Seroprevalence of corona virus in dairy herds of Jabalpur region

Bovine Corona virus (BCV) is widely distributed in cattle population in many countries and specific antibodies can be found in a majority of adult animals. Enzyme linked immunosorbant assay (ELISA) is probably the most widely used diagnostic test for BCV serological surveys as it can be applied for mass screening and give reliable results quickly. Study was conducted to determine the seroprevalence of corona virus in dairy herds of Jabalpur region. The ELISA for detection of bovine corona virus was performed on total 90 serum samples collected from dairy animals of organised as well as unorganised dairy farms. 86.66% serum samples were found positive for corona virus antibody with more positive cases in non diarrhoeic animals. Maximal seroprevalence was observed in adult animals. However no correlation was observed in the clinical finding of diarrhoea and presence of bovine corona virus antibody in serum of dairy animals.
