In the present study, soil and water samples were collected from Sikka port, Gujarat coastal area. Total 24 bacterial strains were isolated from these samples; out of which, 7 isolates namely WJ 3, WJ 4, SJ 3, SSL 32, SSK 241, SSK 23 and SSK 11 were found to be potent producers of biosurfactants on the basis of different screening tests of emulsification like emulsification index, emulsion activity, oil spreading method, drop collapse method, Rhamno test and haemolytic activity. Comparison study shows that emulsion efficacy of biosurfactant is slightly lesser than chemical surfactant SDS, while that was higher for biosurfactant in comparison to Tween 80 and Lecithin.
