Antimicrobial resistance and its mitigation strategies- One health perspective

Antimicrobial resistance is a critical problem that affects human, environmental, and animal health. The incidence of antimicrobial resistance is linked to three components of One Health due to the excessive use of antimicrobials in various sectors. Misuse of antimicrobials, the spread and emergence of infections, agricultural use, environmental contamination, and animals’ food chain, all facilitate the spread of resistance in organisms. Globalization and the free movement of humans and products contribute to the spread of antibiotic resistance, posing challenges at both national and international levels. Strengthening the laws and regulations for the manufacture and distribution of antimicrobials is an urgent need to tackle this emergence. Support from international bodies is needed to assist developing countries in better management of antimicrobial-resistant incidences and their spread. This review aims to analyze the problem of AMR from a One Health perspective and explore possible control measures.
