Abstract

Zoonotic diseases transmitted by dromedary camels present a significant public health concern globally. With the increasing interaction between humans and camels due to agricultural practices, tourism, and cultural traditions, the transmission of infectious agents from camels to humans have become a critical issue. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the major zoonotic diseases associated with camels. The review covers a wide range of zoonotic pathogens that infects camels, including bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites and camel may play an important role in their transmission to human beings. Understanding the complex dynamics of zoonotic diseases transmitted by camels is crucial for implementing effective control measures and minimizing the risk to human health. This review underscores the need for enhanced surveillance, education, and one health approaches to address this growing public health threat in camel-rearing regions and beyond.
