Use of Cognitive-behaviour Therapy and Computer-Assisted Instruction in Improving Academic Skills of a Child with Retardation

The study fpcused on application of cognitive-behaviour therapy (CBT) and computer assisted-instruction (CAI) in correction of reading errors of a 9-year old retarded child: GN. A-B-A quasi-experimental design was used to assess the effects of intervention. Fifteen sessions of CBT and 6 sessions of CAI showed significant improvement in reading errors such as guessing, omission, and pronunciation. Improvements were also noticed in other non-target behaviours including eye-hand co-ordination, verbal memory and expressive language. These positive effects were attributed to improvement in information processing skills.
