Abstract

A 13 year old male having psychogenic aphonia and gait disturbance was assessed in detail and treated with behavioral techniques. A behavioral package was prepared involving techniques like behavioral counseling, shaping, operant method, and problem solving skills training and was carried out with the patient over 10 sessions. Result showed marked improvement in the patient's condition. Role of stress and inadequate coping style in the etiology of psychogenic aphonia and gait disturbance are discussed along with the implication of behavioral approach in the treatment of psychogenic aphonia and dissociative gait disturbance.
