Abstract

Conditioning plays an important role in development and mainlenanee ol’ different types of phobia. Phobias not only cause distress but disability also in the person. The present case study of Mrs. R 38 years married housewife highlights the development of specific phobia of water. A brick fell on her head when she was standing near the gate of his house. It was raining at that time. She developed fear from water. Slowly it was generalized and she developed fear to any activity related to water, such as fear of rain, fear to bath, fear to use water in kitchen and fear to drink water, liven the word water’ created anxiety and fear in her. It became difficult for her to carry out her day to day activities. There are different psychotherapies for the treatment of phobias. In the present study a cognitive behavioural approach was used. Following cognitive behavioural management, there was improvement in the symptoms and it was maintained over follow-up.
