Abstract

The objectives of the study were to examine the psychological functioning, attitude towards help seeking, relationship between the psychological distress and help seeking and to examine gender differences and stream wise differences on the above variables. The sample consisted of 274 students from science, commerce and arts streams. The tools used were Socio-demographic data sheet, General Health Questionnaire-28, Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale and Attitude Towards Professional Psychological Help. Results showed that psychological distress was high in the group as a whole. With respect to gender males scored higher on somatic and anxiety domains. Stream wise, science students scored high on anxiety as compared to commerce and arts students. About half of the sample had normal stress level and other half had moderate to severe stress level. Help seeking was not related to psychological distress.
