Abstract

Adolescent is a time of maturation in which rapid biological and psychosocial changes take place. These changes have a general trajectory but some adolescent fail to gain mastery over it. This uncvcn maturation produces stress for some adolescents. Different researchers have focused on stress management for adolescents. However, there is dearth of study to measure efficacy of different techniques of stress management for nonclinical adolescent population. PubMed, PsycINFO and Ebscohost databases were searched for reviews that examined the efficacy of different techniques of strcss management for adolescents. We scarched manually from the refcrence lists of relevant studies. review articles and books, and searched through major psychological journals. Most recent and relevant articles were included in the present review study. Psychocducational, cognitive behavioural techniques, and social skill training are overall etffective in enhancing physical mental, psychosocial well being of adolescents. Stress management techniques are also helpful in enhancing academic performance, and prevention of substance use, and risk taking behaviour of the adolescents. However, psychoeducational technique produces effectiveness for short time duration. Review also suggests that very few Indian researchers have conducted research studies in this context.
