Abstract

Somatization disorder is the most severe form of the Somatization phenomena. It was earlier called the Briquet syndrome and is characterized by the involvement of multiple organ system occurring over a period of several years resulting in significant impairment and repeated treatment seeking or both. Somatization reflects physical symptoms with an underlying psychological conflict (Marin & Carron, 2002). This case study is evaluating the role of multimodal psychotherapy in the management of somatization disorder. Findings suggest improvement in patient's psychological well being, level of depression, level of anxiety, defense mechanism and conflict areas after treatment.
