Abstract

Case formulation is one of the core competencies of the psychotherapeutic work. Given the usefulness of case formulation in clinical practice, several experts have stressed the importance of teaching and practising case formulation skills in psychotherapy. Describing the progress of psychotherapy through single case study method is an excellent tool to achieve this goal. It can bring in material for discussion especially for beginner professionals in the field. The present paper is an attempt in this direction. This case study attempts to demonstrate that in therapeutic work it is not always necessary to spend lengthy amount of time in initial assessment phase, gathering all possible information in detail from client. One can always initiate the management plan when the sufficient information for making formulation is available. With the advancement of therapy the necessary information may automatically flow in and the formulation can be stepped up to ensure that client's concerns and feedback are continuously used to guide treatment process. The paper also highlights beginner therapist's concerns in this process.
