The Suicide Cognition Scale (SCS) though has been proposed to consist two factors but some studies have either reported three factor solution or a two factor solution with different patterns of loadings. Taking this inconsistency in the factor structure into account, the present study attempts to validate the factor structure of the SCS using the Hindi version of the Suicide Cognition Scale (SCS-H). The SCS-H was developed using the translation-back translation method and was administered on 291 adults (101 males & 190 females) along with self-report measures of stress, anxiety and depression. The SCS-H demonstrated satisfactory item level (corrected item-total correlation ranged from 0.366 to 0.693) and scale level psychometric properties (internal consistency of full scale was 0.916 and that of unloveability and unbearability subscales were 0.867 and 0.87 respectively). The SCS-H correlated significantly and in predicted direction with the measures of stress, anxiety, and depression as well as with a single item measure of suicide ideation which provides support for its validity. Findings of confirmatory factor analysis provided evidence and support for the validity of the original two factor model of the SCS but not for the three factor model. Overall, the findings provide support for the two factor model of the SCS-H and suggest that it can be used to reliably and validly measure suicidal cognition among Hindi-speaking adults.
