Need for Holistic Approach in Treatment of Learning Disorder: A Case of the Kidnapped Boy

Contemporary society gives excessive emphasis on a child's academic performance, the quality of which will form a basis for the overall judgment about a child. A learning problem may therefore engender feelings of anxiety, inadequacy and shame, leading to behavioral disturbances in children of school age. This report highlights the combined impact of failure to understand a child's individual needs, disruptive family dynamics and overpunitive management techniques in a case of Learning Disorder. This case underscores the need adapting a global approach in dealing with children affected by Learning Disorder. Assessment and intervention should be tailor made specifically for each child, including individual and family dynamics, apart from remedial training for academic difficulties.
