Abstract

In Indian yogic techniques, Shavasana is prescribed for psycho-physiological relaxation. In the present study, an attempt has been made to evaluate the effect of this technique of Shavasana on two parameters, such as, psychological parameter-state anxiety and physiological parameter-respiration rate. A sample of thirty female students, educational level B. A. to M. A. and age level 18 to 22 years hailing from urban area were selected for the study. Participants having high or very high level of state anxiety were included. State anxiety was assessed using A-State scale, part of Self-Evaluation Scale (An Anxiety Scale for State, Trait and Free-floating Anxieties) by Tripathi and Rastogi (1983). Respiration rate was counted from abdominal respiration. Pre-post treatment design was used. Result suggests a significant change in state anxiety and respiration rate.
