Abstract

Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder is measure psychosocial concern in childhood in childhood psychiatric disorder and serious consequences are being often faced by the families in the form of distress, humiliation and many others. The child with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) presents special challenge to parent's. It is being realised that the perception of parents regarding diagnosis of ADHD child can be made only by active involvement of parents. Parents are also vulnerable to higher degree of anxiety and other psychological turmoil. Present study was aimed to assess psychological profile of parents of ADHD children. The sample consisted of parents of 100 children in the age range of 6–11 years with diagnosis of ADHD as per ICD 10 criteria. Data was collected from child psychiatry unit of Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) Ranchi, National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (NIMHANS) Bangaluru, Psychiatry Hospital Jammu and Srinagar (Kashmir) and Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied sciences (IHBAS) New Delhi. Parents of children having gross neurological disorders, mental retardation, other physical diseases and the major psychosis or any other significant co-morbidity were excluded. Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale was used for data collection. Data analysis revealed high percentage of anxiety among parents of ADHD children,
