Food Artifacts: Explored through Polarizing Microscope – a Case Report

Pulse granuloma (PG) or Vegetable granuloma (VG) is a distinct oral entity characterized as a foreign body reaction occurring either centrally or peripherally. Central lesions are asymptomatic, whereas peripheral lesions present as painless sub-mucosal swellings. It results from the implantation of food particles of plant or vegetable origin. It is usually seen in the periapical or in the sulcus areas. They may show different histological characteristics, possibly related to the length of time in the tissue. This is the first case to be reported ever with food matter inclusion in the histopathological sections without inciting any inflammatory response. Moreover a newer terminology for any kind of food matter inclusion has been proposed through this paper.
