To detect the prevalence of Chlamydia trachomatis in patients of PID by ELISA
The study was carried out on females attending the OPD of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Subharti medical college in 2011–12 on 80 patients. Each patient was evaluated by history and clinical examination and blood sample of each patient was also withdrawn at the same time and stored and Chlamydia trachomatis antigen and IgG and IgM antibodies were detected by ELISA. The comparison was drawn and analyzed using Chi square test.
Chlamydia trachomatis antigen was found positive in 20% cases. IgM antibody was positive in 34.5% patient and both in 10.9%. IgG was found in 1.8% cases. Overall Chlamydia trachomatis was positive in 45.5% of PID patients.
Chlamydia trachomatis is a common organisms in patients of PID as is evidenced by detection of Antigen and Antibody against Chlamydia trachomatis and females need to be screened for it. Cervical infections with C.trachomatis is a major reservoir for the male and neonatal infections associated with this agent, and cervix is the source of major complications involving the upper genital tract, such as acute salpingitis.
