A Comparative Clinical Study to Evaluate the Efficacy of Matra Basti with Bala Taila and Matra Basti with Prasarini Taila in Sandhigata Vata W. S. R. to Ruka and Graha in Osteoarthritis of Knee Joint

Abstract

We aim to investigate whether the procedure of Matra Basti with two different oils Bala Taila and Prasarini Taila has any effect on Ruka and Graha in Osteoarthritis of Knee Joints.

We studied 40 patients who were having Osteoarthritis of knee joints. Patients were randomly allocated to the “Matra Basti with Bala Taila group” and “Matra Basti with Prasarini Taila Group”. The time of administration of Basti, time of expulsion and samyaka anuvasita lakshanas were noted on each day. The readings for Ruka and Graha were noted before treatment, after treatment of 7 days and follow up were taken on the first, third and fifth week after the treatment.

Both the Bala Taila group and the Prasarini Taila group showed significant decrease in Ruka and Graha levels within both the group but there was no significant change in Ruka and Graha scores between the groups.

The administration Matra Basti is good for the management of Ruka (pain) and Graha (stiffness) in the patients of Osteoarthritis of Knee Joint. Bala taila and Prasarini taila used tor Matra Basti has similar effects on Ruka and Graha in Osteoarthritis of Knee Joint.
