Abstract

Rabies is a major public health problem in Asia. Rabies is an exceptionally fatal encephalitis caused by Rhabdoviruses in the Lyssa virus genus. Transmission typically occurs when broken skin is contaminated with saliva from an infected mammal-usually in association with a bite but in rare instances by scratches.

1) To study the knowledge and general awareness of students about dog-bites. 2) To ascertain the first aid measures adopted by students after dog bite. 3) To study the awareness of people regarding anti rabies vaccines & health services utilization.

A cross sectional interventional study.

375 college students of Swami Vivekananda Subharti University Meerut.

Knowledge on various aspects of the rabies diseases is poor and limited among college students.

There are many myths and false beliefs associated with wound management.

There are many misconception associated with rabies. The modern treatment is available but not properly utilizing among students because they have very basic knowledge about antirabies treatment. Awareness is an effective tool for the prevention of rabies. So, there is strong need to organize awareness programme using educational session about rabies.
