A Study on Different Factors Involved in the Clinical and Etiological Profile of Cerebral Palsy in Children

Abstract

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a diagnostic term used to describe a group of motor syndromes resulting from disorders of early brain growth. This term is not entirely accurate because of the recognition that the neurological features of Cerebral palsy often change or progress over time.

To know the different factors involved in the clinical and etiological profile of Cerebral Palsy.

The study was conducted on 120 children (0–12 years) with a diagnosis of Cerebral palsy in Subharti Medical College Meerut UP. A data was collected for the purpose of this study. Information was obtained from the registration record of OPD of Pediatrics. Data were analyzed using SPSS 19 VERSON.

In this study 120 children with Cerebral Palsy were studied. The incidence of Cerebral palsy was 4.97 per 1000 sick children. (42.5) of children were born to primiparous mother. 99 (82.3) of children were full terms. 103 (85.0) of the children were delivered normally. (12.5) children had a birth weight of 2.5–3 kg. The most common first presenting compliant was the delayed milestones (89.16), speech defects (48.33), visual disorder (28.33) and convulsions (20.00). Etiological profile was carried out in all 120 patients. Etiological profile in natal factor (43.3), prenatal factor (20.8) Post-natal factor (7.5) and multiple factors (9.2) were seen in this study.

Maternal's age, education, home delivery, birth weight factors may increase the possibilities of Cerebral Palsy. A team of experts provided important contribution to the treatment of Cerebral Palsied children.
