In the present study 32 adult female patients aged between 20–50 years suffering with sickle cell anemia were studied. Sickle cell anemia was confirmed by the combined study of solubility test and electrophortic technique method. Their body mass index was between 17.9+1.8 to 18.3± 1.7. The common symptoms were recurrent infection 12(37.5%), intermittent jaundice 8(25%), severe joints pain 9(28.1%), epistaxis 3(9.3%). The grades of anemia was grade-I (normal) 7(21.8%) grade-II (mild) 12(37.5%) Grade-III(moderate) 9(28.1%) and grade-IV (severe) 4(12.5%). The prevalence of abnormal hemoglobin was HBE 18(56.2%), HBS. 11(34.3%), HBD 3(9.3%) was observed. Body mass Index and prevalence of abnormal hemoglobin's. The prevalence of sickle cell disorders in Maharashtra was also compared with other states of India. This study will be quite useful to clinician, pathologist to correlate the severity of anemia and study of Body Mass Index. So awareness about disease with clinical symptoms and symptomatic treatment can be given.
