Meningioma are predominantly benign tumors of adults, usually attached to the dura, that arise from the meningothelial cells of the arachnoid. Meningiomas may be found along any of the external surface of the brain as well as within the ventricular system, where they arise from the stromal arachnoid cells of the choroid plexus.
To study the incidence, location, sex and age predilection histological variant and grading of meningioma based on WHO 2016 classification.
It was a retrospective study of patients diagnosed with meningioma in the Department of Pathology of B.J. Medical College, Civil Hospital of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. The study included 116 CNS tumors that underwent surgical resection from January 2015 to December 2017.
Out of 116 cases most common variant is meningothelial meningioma(58.49%). According to World Health Organization (WHO) grading, most common grade is grade I consisting of 104 (89.65%) cases and the most common site in central nervous system is intracranial. Female predominance is seen in meningioma. Meningiomas were most common in fifth decade.
