To study the stability of home-made Frozen Human Serum and compare it with commercially prepared lyophilized human sera already being used in our laboratory at IGIMS, Patna
This study was conducted in Department of clinical Biochemistry, IGIMS, Patna.
Serum was obtained from 25 healthy volunteers in IGIMS, Patna. Serum from each donor was pooled, processed and adjusted the levels was placed in a deep freezer (−15 to-20°C) to completely freeze the pooled serum. The serum was then mixed thoroughly with 0.1%Sodium Azide. Aliquots was stored in a deep freezer (−15 to-20°C) until analyzed. The Frozen serum stabilized with Sodium Azide was introduced as a new lot of normal control for comparison of the nine constituents being analyzed routinely on the instrument. At 95% confidence interval the results of the pooled sera sample stored at-20°C were statistically compared with results of initial values.
Our results showed that the Quality Control serum prepared in-home could be used upto 6 months if stored at-20°C without significant change in concentration except for bilirubin and SGPT.
This study showed that our pooled sera samples are equivalent to commercial controls and are very economical. So it can be used as cost effective and stable control material in comparison to the commercial ones.
