The discovery and identification of the bacteria now grouped in the genus Brucella were important steps in the development of knowledge concerning the complex disease of human and animals now known as Brucellosis. The isolation and identification of Brucella abortus was carried out from aborted bovine fetuses and foetal membranes by the Danish veterinarian, Frederick Bang in year 1897 (Jones et al., 1997).
