A brief study was undertaken to count somatic cells in the quarter milk samples in Rathi cattle native to western part of Rajasthan and exotic Holstein Friesian (HF) cows as an indirect index of subclinical mastitis. A lower number of somatic cells were recorded in Rathi as compared to HF cattle denoting adaptability of Rathi cattle to desert environs and natural resistance towards infections.
