To study the various types of spontaneous as well as induced abortions and to know the incidence of various complications of abortions.
A crossectional study for duration of one year on all cases (1225) of abortions attending ipd and opd of a tertiary care centre. Other than demographic details proper history regarding medication abortion or any other method of abortion was included.statistical evaluation of various complication of abortion was studied.
Out of total abortions ie.1225,328 reported as spontaneous and 897 were induced. Out of these 897 abortions 699 ie 57% were legal and 198 ie.16.66% were illegally induced. In legal abortions complication rate was nil and in remaining 526 cases(including spontaneous and illegally induced) 126 cases showed complications.
Various complications of abortions continue to be a major and important cause of maternal mortality and morbidity. Unfortunately despite liberalisation of abortion since 1971 consequences of unsafe abortions is a serious health problem in India.
