Abstract

Ascaris Lumbricoides, a nematode, is the causative agent for Ascariasis which is the most common helminthic infestation in the world. The aims of this study were to study the various types of clinical presentations, complications of Ascariasis and their frequency, to access the efficacy of various diagnostic tools and various treatment options available for the management of Ascariasis and its complications.

A total of 52 patients (35 females and 17 males) with Ascariasis over a period of last 5 years studied.

Clinical assessment with history of passage of worms in the stool or vomitus and recurrent abdominal pain with or without jaundice was taken into account.

Incidence, Average and Percentage Calculation.

Most of the patients improve on conservative management, only 25% required surgical procedures and 7.7% required endoscopic intervention. Ultrasonography (USG) of the abdomen and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP) are important tools available for diagnostic and therapeutic purpose.
