Study of Inter Vertebral Disc of Lumbar Vertebrae in both Males and Females of different ages in South Indian Population

Abstract

As back pain is a grave problem in both genders. Owing to the fast growth in the tomographic techniques I.V. disc of lumbar vertebrae is approached through various angles by keeping intact the spinal cord, spinal nerves and its meninges. Hence it has become a technically challenge to neurosurgeon for an adequate exposure for lesion excision, carpectomy vertebral body reconstruction with Cages, re-alignment and/or plating or screwing. Hence attempt is made to study the I.V. disc of lumbar vertebrae morpho-metrically to Contribute surgeons and diagnostic value for clinician, radiologist.

40 Males and 40 females (total 80) I.V. disc of lumbar Vertebrae at different age groups 20–30, 31–40, 41–50, 51–60, are studied radiologically Their plane X-ray are taken and following parameters are studied 1) anterior height 2) Posterior height 3) Posterior depth 4) Total height 5) Index of wedging 6) Mean relative height of I V disc. In Males 0.all the result are statically significant (P> 0.0001) except mean relative index of I V disc of L1-L2 similarly in females also all the results of significant (P> 0.0001) except a) Index of wedging in L1-L2 and L3-L4 I V disc b) Mean relative height index L1-L2 I V disc remain in significant. These Significant Observations are more or less in agreement with previous workers (1)
