To determine the cost effectiveness and efficacy of hernia repair by using nylon mosquito net mesh and commercial poly propylene mesh. Net mesh repair is cost effective and valid solution for surgical inguinal hernia repair in both poor and rural areas.
This is a prospective study done in 100 patients who underwent inguinal hernia repair done at Saraswathi institute of medical sciences, Anwarpur, Hapur over a period of 6yr from March 2009 to July 2014.
100 patients underwent inguinal hernia repair using a total number of 70 polyester mosquito net mesh and 30 poly propylene commercial mesh. Mean age of patient was 44 [18 to 70 yrs]. Cost of an individual mosquito net mesh was Rs.20 while commercial poly propylene mesh costs between Rs.800 to 1200.
Polyester mosquito net mesh is a cost effective alternative to commercial mesh in our rural western up with low rate early complication or no complication at all.
