Cancer of cervix uteri is the most common malignancy amongst women in India & 2nd most common Cancer worldwide. Some strains of HPV are responsible for the development of cervical cancer.
The aim of study was to assess the knowledge & awareness about HPV infection & their attitude towards its vaccination among under graduate medical students in NCR, Delhi.
It was a cross-sectional study using a pretested, structured, anonymous, self administerd questionnaire.261 medical students of 5th & 9th semester participated in the study.
In this study 62.1% and 37.9% of the students were females & males respectively. Regarding knowledge about the cervical cancer 83.9% of the students knew that it is the most common gynecological cancer. 77% of students thought that cause of cervical cancer is infection. 83.9% students thought that virus is the causative organism. According to 65.5% students, HPV is spread by sexual route. 86.2% of students heard about HPV from media. 46% of the students thought that HPV infection is asymptomatic. 80.5% of students thought that there is a cure for HPV infection. 71.26% students answered that HPV infection can be prevented by vaccine & 86.2% students support vaccination in preadolescent girls.
