Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess and analyze the rate of caesarean section with particular reference to primary caesarean delivery.

Retrospective study done in a tertiary care hospital by collecting the data of caesarean section (C/S) particularly primary C/S, which was done in cases of primigravida over a period of one year i.e., from January to December 2011.

The overall C/S rate was 24.73% and the primary C/S was 27.87%. Cephalopelvic disproportion was the leading cause of C/S.

The raising rate of primary C/S over period of years is alarming. The rate of C/S could be reduced with a good mix of staff in the labour wards including both consultants and midwives and also careful monitoring of electronic fetal heart rate.
