Objective of this study was to Study the effectiveness of transdermal nitroglycerine patch as short term tocolytic and to find the mean prolongation of gestation
The study was a Hospital based prospective study undertaken in the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, MVJ Medical College &Research Hospital, Hoskote, Bangalore between October 2011 to September 2013. After fulfilling the inclusion and exclusion criteria a total of 50 cases were treated with transdermal Nitroglycerine patch for tocolysis.
Success rate for acute tocolysis was 74%. Mean prolongation of pregnancy was 15.1 days and mean birth weight of babies was 2.1654 kilograms. Most common side effect with Nitroglycerine patch was headache (12%).
Transdermal Nitroglycerine patch is effective for suppression of preterm labour. Most common side effect is headache.
