Abstract

Stillbirth is a traumatic event, both for the mother and the obstetrician. Despite the increased awareness and vigilance, the stillbirth rate continues to be high. Antepartum fetal deaths are associated with several maternal, placental or fetal factors. The assessment of such factors is a necessity as we envision reducing the morbidity associated with it. The results of the present study reveal that IUFD is significantly higher in Rural and Low Socio Economic settings among multiparous women who do not comply with Antenatal checkups. On delivery of the IUFD, gestational age >28 weeks was noted in 59.4% and a birth weight of <2.5kgs in 63.7%. Although maternal outcome was uneventful in 59.4%, the current study portrays that educating the female to access antenatal care during her pregnancy can help reduce the incidence of such a traumatic event.
