Correlative Study of Cranial Index with Carotid Canal in Rajasthan Crania of Both Sexes

Abstract

44 male and 30 females, non-pathological Crania are studied. The correlative of cranial Index with both right and left Carotid Canals are measured. Carotid canals are measured with digital caliper. Cranial index is measured with Spreading Caliper. Mean value of Cranial index in male crania is 67.17cm(SD+-1.06), mean value of female cranial index is 71.55cm(SD+-1.25), t test value is-16.01 which is highly significant (p<0.01). Mean value of diameter of right carotid canal in males is 0.88 cm (SD+-0.06).in female 0.66 cm (SD+-0.10), t test value is-11.9which is highly significant p value (p<0.01).mean value of diameter of left Carotid canal in males is 0.71 cm (SD+-0.09), in females 0.53cm (sd+-0.06), t test value is 9.78 which is highly significant statistically(p<0.01). Correlative co efficient of male cranial index versus right carotid canal in male is-0.63 and female is-0.70. cranial index versus left carotid canal in male is-0.62 and in female is-0.67. Both values are statistically highly significant (p<0.01). Regression analysis of male cranial index constant value is 76.9, t test value is 44.3 which is also highly significant (p<0.01).with 95% of confidence interval, diameter of right carotid canal is-7.25, t test value is-2.98 which is highly significant(p<0.01).with 95% of confidence interval Diameter of left carotid canal is-4.73, t test value is-2.82 is highly significant(p<0.01). with 95% confidence interval. Anova test total value is 47.9 which is also highly significant (p<0.01)Regression equation analysis female crania constant value is 79.39, diameter of right carotid canal is-5.93, diameter of left carotid canal is-7.45. All the values are statistically highly significant (p<0.01). This correlative coefficient and regression equation study is quite useful to Neuro surgeon to have ideal approach to middle and front of cranial base for micro technique surgery, and to Radiologist during angiographic study of Internal carotid artery. He can differentiate normal diameter of foramina from pathological diameter of foramina which compresses the Internal carotid artery. Moreover by these significant values of cranial index one can explore the carotid canal or vice versa. Hence these values are also important to Medico-legal expert, and to the Anthropologist who can note these values as regional significance or importance, because morpho-metric values of mesoderm are un certain
