Abstract

Cholelithiasis is one of the most common gastroenterological diseases, imposing a huge economic burden on health-care system. Gallbladder stones form when the concentration of cholesterol or bilirubin exceeds the equilibrium ratio of the bile salt and phospholipid-rich bile, consequent to which the solubility of cholesterol is affected.

This is a prospective case controlled study of cholelithiasis patients attending SMS&R and a pre formed sets of questionrelated to its predisposition was assessed.

Cholelithiasis, being one of the commonest surgical problems in this region, we wished to analyse its etiological factors, so that we can help the population to prevent its preponderance in our region.

Most of the patients were of age group between 31 to 40 and 41 to 50 years with female predominance. There was a high incidence of this disease with increasing BMI and parity.

We observed that there is a definite co-relation between advancing age, parity, high BMI, female gender with incidence of Cholelithiasis.
