Abstract

250 patients of vulvo-vaginal disorder aged between 10–65 were selected for study and divided in three groups depending on age. Of the 18 patients in age group 10–20, the disorder split was Bacterial infection 11.1%, Fungal infection 38.8%, Allergic & Foreign Body Disorder 44.4%, Herpes infection 5.55%. No case of Vulvodynia, Atrophic Vaginitis & Malignancy were seen in this group. 178 patients were in age group 21–45, among them there was Bacterial Infection 44.94%, Fungal Infection 42.6%, Allergic & F.B. Disorder 6.74%, Herpes Infection 2.24%, Vulvodynia 2.8%, Atrophic Vaginitis & Carcinoma 0.56%. 54 patients were in the age group 46–65, they were having Bacterial Infection 18.51%, Fungal Infection 37.03%, Allergic and F.B. Disorder 5.5%, Herpes Infection 1.85%, Vulvodynia 3.7% & Atrophic Vaginitis, Carcinoma 33.3%.

Bacterial infection (Bacterial Vaginosis) rate was higher in reproductive age group i.e. 21–45. Fungal infection (Candidiasis) incidences were almost same at all age group. Candidiasis is common in Diabetic, Debilating & Immunocompromised patient. Allergic and F.B. disorder incidence were higher in perimenache (10–20) age group patient & much less incidence in age group 21–45 and 46–65. Incidences of herpes infection were quite less and no age variation was found. No case of Vulvodynia, Atrophic Vaginitis and Malignancy was seen at perimenarche (10–20) age group. Incidences of Vulvodynia were similar at age group 21–45 & 46–65. Incidence of Atrophic Vaginitis and carcinoma was highest around menopause and postmenopause patient.

Pain, burning, discharge, itching & odour are few common symptoms in all these disorders but there is lot of variation in management of these disorders at different age groups. Hence knowledge of prevalence of a disorder at a specific age would help Gynecologist to manage these most uncomfortable disorders earliest and efficiently. Also cut short the buckets of investigation to be done by pathologist for diagnosis. This study will also helpful for the physician, community medicine personnel and medico social workers to create awareness among the women regarding Hygiene, preventive measures etc as most of diseases are due to Unhygienic habits and conditions.
