Abstract

Fistula in ano is a complex clinical entity which causing discomfort to patient and distress to treating surgeon. Of the various procedure fistulotomy, fistulectomy with closure, and seton are studied in great details as these have given superior closur rates and patient satisfaction to the patients in the long run. Fistula surgery as any other surgical procedure is studded with complications of which notably are infection, incontinence and recurrence.

To compare the functional result and healing process in patients undergoing fistulotomy and fistulectomy with delayed primary closure of simple and complex fistula in ano.

This study was conducted in the department of general surgery S.R.N.hospital M.L.N. Medical college, Allahabad. A total of 42 patient were included in the study which satisfied the inclusion and exclusion criteria. patients selected for study were divided in two groups-Group A-patients undergone fistulotomy/lay open technique and Group B-patients undergoing fistulectomy and delayed primery closure and The outcome of the study was assessed on certain parameter like 1-Healing time in weeks with delayed healing considered for any wound taking more then 60 days after the procedure done, 2-Post operative pain, 3-Continence-to air and stool, During day time or nighttime 4-Fistula recurrence rate.

In this study infection rate, incontinence and recurrence rate was higher in group A patient in comparision to group B.

Fistulectomy and delayed primary closure has better functional result when compared to fistulotomy in treatment of fistula in ano.
