The concept of blood transfusion has long history date from 2500BC, based on the belief as the blood is the living force of the body of many by many cultures of the world. Every second for everyday people around the world of all ages need blood transfusion to survive. Blood transfusion is a lifesaving technique in various conditions especially saving mothers. Interns are going to be medical officers in the immediate future. So they should definitely have an idea about blood transfusion for timely action and efficient management also knowledge about blood banks, blood storage and centres.
To assess the knowledge about blood transfusion among interns in a teaching hospital
A cross sectional study was carried out in the General surgery department of a tertiary care Centre. All Interns belonging to 2011 batch were included in the study.
In the current study 100 interns participated, out of which 60% were females and 40% males. 32% of the study participants were aware of the appropriate age for blood transfusion. 64% of the participants knew the right interval for blood transfusion.62% of the participants were unaware of the donor haemoglobin level before transfusion
The significant findings of the study showed reasonable awareness about aspects of blood transfusion among interns, the future doctors of the society
