Out of a total of 80 patients, 40 were classified into group A (in which 20 were males and 20 females). Similarly the remaining 40 patients were classified in group B (20 male and 20 females). Both groups were operated under Spinal Anesthesia. Group A was administered 10 mg hyperbaric Bupivacaine with 1 mg Nalbuphine and group B was administered 10 mg hyperbaric bupivacaine with 3 mg Pentazocine. The heart rate (HR) and blood pressure (BP) was noted at intervals of base line, 10, 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, and 180 minutes. The mean values of heart rate were found to be higher in group B than group A with highly significant P value (p <0.01). BP values, both systolic and diastolic were higher in group A and normal in group B which were highly significant statistically (P<0.01).
The duration of analgesia was 486.2 ± 26.4 minutes in group A and 304.3 ± 5.9 minutes in group B with highly significant P value (P<0.01). The duration of onset of sensory block was 15.4 ± 0.3 minutes and 19.3 ±0.3 minutes in group A & B respectively with highly significant P value (P < 0.0) and that of motor block was 11.4 ± 0.19 minutes &13.3 ± 0.3 minutes in group A & B respectively with significant P value (P < 0.01) Thus group B analgesic drug combination, Hyperbaric Bupivacaine and Pentazocine was found superior compared to group A analgesic drug combination, Hyperbaric Bupivacaine and Nalbuphine. This study will help anaesthesiologists to provide better conditions for Surgery, longer pain relief for the patient and pharmacologist to recommend the group B combination than group A.
