Study of Prevalence of Appendicitis in the Children of both sexes in Rajasthan Population

Abstract

40 Male and 40 Female children aged between 5to 10 years having appendicitis were studied. In male children perforated appendicitis was 25%, and highest incidence (17%) in the age group between 5to 6 years. Prevalence of acute appendicitis in male children was 57.5% and highest (25%) in the age group between Chronic Appendicitis in male children was 17.5% and highest (7.5%) in the age group between 9 to 10 years. In Female children perforated Appendicitis was 10%.and highest (7.5%) in the age group between 5–6 years. Acute Appendicitis was 50 in female children and highest (27.5%) in the age group between 7 to 8 years. Chronic Appendicitis was 40% in female children and highest (15%) in the age group between 5to 6 years. It is observed that, perforated Appendicitis more in male children and prevalence chronic Appendicitis was more in female children This study will certainly help the pediatrician, Radiologist, and above all to Surgeon. As Appendix of children contain large proportion of lymphoid tissue hence they are more prone to get inflamed and infected
